On Sept. 17, Netflix premiered (at long last!) a full-length preview for the Penn Badgley-led drama, offering up tons of tantalizing clues as to what happens next on the “killer” series. (See more below for a full, um, dissection on that!) The trailer’s debut follows a teaser that was shared on social media back on Aug. 30, which had revealed that You Season 3 will finally arrive on Friday, Oct. 15. That teaser also set in motion the latest jumps in You’s storyline: After Badgley’s serial killer protagonist, Joe Goldberg, moved from New York City to L.A. between Seasons 1 and 2, Season 3 will find him settling in the suburbs alongside equally murderous love interest Love (Victoria Pedretti)—who (Season 2 spoiler alert!) he was going to kill before she revealed that she was pregnant with their unborn child. Is there a You Season 3 trailer?
Is there ever! It’s a lot to take in, so here it is again: It opens with the murderous Joe somberly declaring in his signature voiceover, “In my history of scared, this is the most scared I’ve ever been.” Could it be that the idea of getting caught for his crimes is rendering him petrified? Maybe he’s afraid of his feelings for Love? Nope: It’s becoming a dad that’s got him so afraid, as the next shot in the trailer reveals his just-delivered newborn son. In voiceover, Joe then starts addressing “you” as he has many times before—except this time, it starts to sound like his new “you” is his child, suggesting that maybe he’s ready to put all the slaughtering behind him and focus on becoming a family man. “For you, I’d move to some soulless suburb,” he says. “For you, I’d marry the monster: Your mother, Love.” But before long, Joe’s attention shifts to the woman who captured his imagination at the very end of Season 2, new neighbor Natalie. Here’s where things really start getting insane. It seems Joe and/or Love will kill at least one new victim in Season 3, as Joe is seen wrapping up a bloodied body in plastic (and later, both Joe and Love seem to be digging a grave while their son is parked nearby in his car seat). Joe and Love’s union will also start to fall apart as Love suggests they go to couples’ therapy in one scene, only to scream at Joe a few seconds later, “Why don’t you love me anymore?!” As Joe muses at the end of the clip, “I never thought to wonder what happens after boy gets girl.”
When is You’s Season 3 release date?

Has production on You Season 3 started?
Back in January 2021, it was reported that filming on Season 3 was set to get underway in February (with strict COVID-19 protocols in place) and would run through April 2021. The @YouNetflixUpdate Twitter account kept fans abreast on that progress, sharing behind-the-scenes snaps confirming that production was definitely up and running—and hinting at some mild spoilers for what could be in store.
Will YouSeason 3 be based on the book You Love Me?
In April 2021, author CarolineKepnes—whose You novels serve as the source material for the Netflix show—released her third book in her literary series, You Love Me. It follows 2014’s You and the 2016 sequel (which also provided some Season 2 inspiration for the show), Hidden Bodies. Around the same time, Kepnes told The Hollywood Reporter that she offered to give the show’s writers an early draft of You Love Me and that fans should notice some similarities between the new book and the next season. “You’re going to see Joe living in a place similar to where he lived in the book,” she explained. However, she also pointed out that the onscreen version of the You and the on-page version of You have never been totally identical.
Who are the new You Season 3 cast members?
The show is adding several characters for its upcoming season. Perhaps the most famous among them? Felicity’s Scott Speedman! According to the Netflix Queue Twitter account, some of the other “fresh blood joining You Season 3” are actress Shalita Grant and actor Travis Van Winkle. Grant (who you may know from such shows as Search Party, Santa Clarita Diet and NCIS: New Orleans) will play a “Mom-fluencer” named Sherry who “appears down to earth, but is actually a mean girl" and pretends to welcome Love into her inner circle. Van Winkle’s character, Cary, is described as a “wealthy” guy who likewise “invites Joe into his inner circle.” (As noted above, Cary also seems to end up in Joe Goldberg’s cage.) What happened at the end of You Season 2?
A bloodbath! Fans were stunned to learn that Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) was just as psycho as Joe (Badgley), obsessively stalking him and killing both his ex-girlfriend, Candace (Ambyr Childers), and his apartment manager/hookup, Delilah (Carmela Zumbado), so that his murderous past isn’t exposed. Meanwhile, Love’s brother, Forty (James Scully), nearly pulls the trigger on Joe after finding out the truth about him, but winds up shot dead by Officer Fincher (Danny Vazquez). That leads Fincher to start suspecting that it was Forty who killed Hendy (Chris D’Elia), saving Joe from further investigation for that murder. Oh, also, Love tells Joe she’s pregnant with his baby!
Are any characters leaving You after Season 2?
Obviously, the murdered characters mentioned above won’t be coming back anytime soon (except maybe in flashbacks or dream sequences). There’s also no official word on still-alive Season 2 characters like Delilah’s little sister, Ellie (Jenna Ortega), or Love’s mom, Dottie (SaffronBurrows). Ellie moved away at the end of Season 2, and while she contacted Joe via postcard, it’s unlikely she’ll want to reconnect with him in person after all that’s happened.
Are there any You Season 3 spoilers?
Are there ever! Let’s start with the most recent: When the first Season 3 trailer dropped on Sept. 17, the show’s official Season 3 posters arrived along with it. One of them bears the tagline “Prepare to Meet Your Baker” above an image of Joe and Love in their kitchen whipping up a batch of something bloody… so maybe they’re disposing of their victims’ corpses with some culinary creativity this time around? (Seems unlikely, but with You, you never know.) A couple more spoilers were revealed in the Season 3 date announcement, which divulged the name and gender of Joe and Love’s baby. “A boy is not what we expected and I would be lying if I said the thought of a mini-me was purely exciting and not without, uh, challenges,” Joe says in that video. “So what to call you? A name that’s strong but not intimidating, classic but not basic, literary of course, because you will grow up in a house full of books. Henry. Choosing your name is the first of a lifetime of decisions I’ll make to give you the best life possible, to protect you, to shape who you will become. Who are you going to be, Henry?” Netflix followed up that video with several stills from Season 3 that likewise hint at what may come next. A couple of them show Joe doing the dad thing with son Henry strapped to his chest in a baby carrier: In what could be a telltale visual, another pic shows Joe toting Henry to what looks like a library. Is he hoping to share his love of books with his son, or is he planning something more sinister? Perhaps most sinister of all, there’s a photo that seems to show Joe and Love having a conversation in front of his infamous cage. Badgley may have spilled the biggest spoilers of all when he told Entertainment Tonight back in December 2019 that Joe ultimately “needs justice, but what does that mean? Does that mean prison, death? I don’t know. I mean, he inevitably will be [murdered], right? He has to be.” So…who’s the new You? The second season of You ended with Joe and Love relocating to the suburbs as they awaited the birth of their first child. However, as Joe looked through his backyard fence at the property next door, it seemed like the next subject of his obsession may be the woman who lives there (whose name, we now know, is Natalie).
