“The world is our sound stage on The Amazing Race, and the safety of our cast and crew when traveling is always our No. 1 priority,” said co-creator and executive producer Bertram van Munster. “We made the tough decision to stop production in February 2020 and are excited that, despite the challenges of filming and traveling internationally in a pandemic, we were able to welcome this amazing cast back to finish what they started and complete their journeys of a lifetime safely this fall.” Resuming the race after over a year and a half—in what the show cheekily refers to as the “longest pit stop ever”—is an unprecedented move for unprecedented times. And when the remaining teams returned, there were some changes instituted for the health and wellness of the cast and crew, namely using a private chartered plane to fly to each location. But the name of the game with The Amazing Race is still the same, as season 33 will continue to showcase the wonders of the world in 2022, as the show has been doing for 20 years. As for the cast, eleven more teams of varying relationships embarked in a race around the world. As per usual, this Amazing Race casts includes some familiar faces, including a couple from the U.S. version of Love Island, a pair who famously stopped a terrorist attack in 2015, and several teams behind viral videos. That’s just a handful of the teams in a cast that includes flight attendants, radio hosts and singing police officers. Check out the gallery below to find out more about the teams competing this season. The Amazing Race 33 premieres with a special two-hour episode on Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, as the cast heads out from their homes to their first location in London.
