But before he even got to that point, Matt had a very intense conversation with his father, Manny. Matt made it very, very clear that he didn’t want to make the same mistakes as his father—i.e. marrying a woman, having a child with her and leaving his family. He also called his dad out for not being very involved in his life growing up, saying at one point, “I didn’t want sneakers. I didn’t want pizza. I wanted my dad.” And, while the two eventually hugged and teared up, it left plenty of people feeling uncomfortable for watching. Matt did mention Chuck E. Cheese at one point, which brought a bit of levity to the otherwise heavy moment–at least for viewers. He was explaining to his dad that this wasn’t a celebration, that they needed to have a serious conversation. If it were a celebration, Matt said, they’d be at Chuck E. Cheese. Twitter had a field day. But, while Matt’s conversation with his dad was an early focal point, things quickly shifted to his Fantasy Suite dates. Here’s what went down—and how social media reacted.
Matt’s fantasy suite date with Michelle Young
Matt and Michelle enjoyed a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch spa day that was…unusual. During it, the two had an oatmeal foot soak, milk bath, and melted butter massages. While the two had a picture-perfect date night, plenty of people compared the day portion to Dwight Schrute’s attempt to morph his farm into a B&B on The Office. Worth noting: Michelle told Matt that she loved him—again—and he responded with, “Thanks for sharing that with me again.”
Matt’s fantasy suite date with Rachael Kirkconnell
Rachael kicked off her date being very clearly in a funk over Matt having spent the night with both Bri and Michelle before her. She was quiet (and even sulky?) during their weirdly Ghost-wannabe pottery date, until she pulled Matt aside for a talk. There, Rachael laid out why she wasn’t herself, and Matt responded by saying that he’s falling in love with her and doesn’t want to be without her in his life. That floored plenty of people given that Matt ~technically~ isn’t supposed to be so open at this point in the show. Twitter wasn’t too kind to Rachael.
Matt’s fantasy suite date with Bri Springs
Bri and Matt had a different kind of day date. They roughed it up by pitching a tent, roasting weenies and making s’mores. Matt definitely cracked one of those jokes at one point, saying, “Yeah, I know how to pitch a tent.” Don’t worry, they didn’t spend the night out in the wilderness. Bri had a glam evening date, but plenty of people felt like she got the shaft earlier in the day. Bri told Matt that she loved him again, and his response was just to kiss her. (Note: Last time she said it, he responded with a simple, “thanks.”) Matt eventually sent Bri home at the end of the week. Twitter is worried she won’t get her job back.
