What is Bastille Day?
On July 14th, the French celebrate Bastille Day every year to pay homage to earning their freedom from the monarchy. Bastille Day is the French national holiday commemorating the storming of the Bastille at a turning point during the French Revolution in 1789. It is known as the French National Day (La Fête Nationale), or the 14th of July (Le 14 Juillet). It is a holiday celebrated in France by the French Military Parade and it’s followed by a day of feasting with friends and family and fireworks in the evening. The traditional feasting comes in the form of wonderful picnics commemorating the French commoners taking to the streets during the French Revolution. People also create a feast in their homes, as a form of a family reunion by having beautiful garden parties.
