Washington’s Allen Stone, who was one of the frontrunners, was unable to be present in person but his song was pre-taped to keep him in the competition and he later joined remotely. After all the performances, while the votes were being counted, Jimmie Allen performed “Down Home.” Then, when all was said and done, the results from the jury and America’s votes were counted in real time and the winner was revealed. For the finale, America’s votes were given more weight than the jury, which totally changed the results.
