No one was able to dethrone the Grown Ups actor from the top spot on this year’s Google Year in Search “Celebrity Outfits” list. The data reflects top trending searches that saw a spike in traffic over a sustained period throughout the year in the U.S., per Google. The 56-year-old was in good company with the likes of football quarterback Joe Burrow, basketball player Jarrett Allen, rising Latin superstar Bad Bunny, and Pamela Anderson. There were also some specific queries on the list, including Amber Heard’s court fashion and Lil Nas X at the VMAS, more specifically, the “Industry Baby” singer’s lilac suit-dress hybrid during the show’s red carpet event. Obviously, Sandler’s look isn’t as fashion-forward as Lil Nas X’s, which is why some may raise a brow at the fact that he’s been deemed this year’s style icon. However, his unique and laidback fashion sense previously landed him the top spot on the 2021 list as well, proving there’s something to be said for his penchant for basketball shorts, oversized shirts, high-rise socks, and UGG boots—a relaxed aesthetic that prioritizes comfort over style. As Esquire noted in a recent piece, this is a “bona fide Hollywood actor, comedian, and producer who’s worth over $400 million, but refuses to dress like one.” JOCE/Bauer-Griffin/Getty Images “It took a while. I was working that angle for years,” Sandler confessed to the outlet, adding. “For a while I was like, ‘Please accept me and the way I dress.’ And 30 years later, they finally came around.” The outlet revealed that his ethos when it comes to fashion is simple: “It’s all comfort and it’s a lot of ‘Hopefully, this fits.’” Sandler has rocked the look in both his everyday life and on red carpets for quite some time, but it’s only now getting the recognition it deserves, largely taking off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Stylist Robert Verdi told The Post that the health crisis made people realize that “materialism doesn’t matter.” In fact, the hashtag #sandlercore on TikTok has nearly 2.2 million views, with plenty of videos trying to recreate the look or simply paying homage to it. In 2021, The Guardian dubbed the “embarrassing dad look” as a trend known as “slob-ebrities,” which includes the likes of Pete Davidson, Justin Bieber, and Jonah Hill. Its success comes from staying authentic to your personal style and deviating from what society deems to be “well dressed,” and it’s definitely working well for Sandler! InStyle Australia even put together an inspo-board, providing fans with all that they need to channel their inner-Sandler. More News:
